Ancient Ward Tank Gear

This is a guide to finding useful Ancient Ward Tank Gear in the New World MMO.

When you are looking to progress as a Tank and begin doing Mutated Expeditions, it becomes essential to use gear that has specific Wards so you can reduce your damage to certain enemy types.

In this guide we are going to be focussing on the gear you need for fighting with Ancient’s that include the Ancient Ward perk.

Ancient enemies can be found inside Lazarus Instrumentality, Starstone Barrows and The Ennead Expeditions so this gear would be ideal for progressing those from Mutation 1 to 10.

This gear is not “Best in Slot” but it is fairly easy to farm, named gear which drops in Heavy Armor and will be really useful to get you started in the Mutated Expeditions.

This gear is looted at purple quality, but when you upgrade it to 600 Gear Score, it gains an additional perk and becomes Legendary gold quality.

These are the easiest ones to farm as they drop from normal Ennead. You could also hold off on the Hand slot, with the other 4 pieces of Ancient Ward gear you could wait until Lazarus is the weekly Mutation and then progress that until you pick up the Chardis’ Handwraps as they are a little better.

Dropped By: Ancient Offering or Elite Offering

These are not as easy to obtain as some of the named boss drops but there are not many other good named boots with the Ancient Ward perk. On the plus side there are a lot of Ancient and Elite Offering located around Brimstone Sands and they also drop a lot of other really useful gear so when farming these you’ll pick up a lot of useful items and materials including Golden Scarabs.

Ancient Bane: +14% Damage to Ancients.

Thwarting Strikes: Deal 11% additional damage while you have active grit.

Sundering Shockwave: Shockwave inflicts Rend, reducing target’s damage absorption by 14% for 10 seconds.

Location: Brimstone Sands, Valley of the Gods, Heliopolis

Boss: Batheqet of the Cudgel

This is a pretty nice named weapon you can pick up which has Ancient Bane along with Sundering Shockwave which adds Rend to your Shockwave ability. Thwarting Strikes is also good since you should have Grit active, so you’ll gain more additional damage.

Other

For your Shield, other Weapons and Jewellery:

There are not any other good options when it comes to other weapons with an Ancient Bane perk, while there are some named drops, they are hard to obtain.

With your Shield, it highly depends on how you are setup – I usually go with Sturdy, Sturdy Energy and Refreshing/Any.

Jewellery used for fighting Ancients doesn’t really have any specific requirements so you can use any jewellery you like but I would suggest making sure to have Health on Amulets, Hearty on Rings and Refreshing Toast on Earring as a minimum.
