What’s the Best Arcanist Tank Race?

With The Elder Scrolls Online Necrom chapter releasing on PC this week, we’ve had the chance to play through a lot of content with the Arcanist Tank.

On Twitch we’ve seen a very common question asking what is the best race for the Arcanist Tank? And the answer isn’t exactly simple!

Arcanist Tanks have access to a lot of resistances with skills that include Major and Minor Resolve, a passive that gives almost 2k resistances and a skill that steals 2200 armor from enemies, add that to your heavy armor and you are pretty much at the 33k resistance cap.

Nord: Extremely common Tank race but maybe not so much for an Arcanist Tank. When you use a Nord you’ll be over the resistance cap in most situations. The benefit of being a Nord is – you will not need Reinforced gear and you won’t need to use any Resistance CP so you have access to be a bit more versatile with traits and champion points.

Sustain Race: Sustain on an Arcanist is great generally, however in heavy block phases in hard fights like Veteran Trials, I did notice Stamina sustain becoming an issue. This means using an Imperial or Redguard could be useful to combat that problem. Redguard will reduce the cost of all weapon abilities and give you 12k Stamina return per minute. Imperial will give you 6% cost reduction to everything including skills, Ultimate and Block so that could be good, but not as good if you use cost reduction jewellery.

Healer or Damage Dealer Race: Since there are no effectively “must have” race for the Arcanist and if you intend on playing as an Arcanist Tank, Healer and Damage Dealer you could opt for combining the Tank and Healer by choosing a meta race for the other roles since it won’t really make that much difference. Taking a healer race on a Tank generally is better than taking a Damage Dealer race in most cases, but for the Arcanist either option would work fine.

The Arcanist really gives you some extra freedom to setup your Tank – selecting a race won’t really have that much impact on your character thanks to their great armor and sustain buffs and passives.
