Off Tank Gear
If you are an experienced group and an experienced Tank who can maintain Alkosh with 80%+ uptime then you could use Alkosh in this Trial if it is needed. This would only be needed if you have more than half of the Damage Dealers are not Nightblades and Necromancers. If Alkosh is needed, you don’t need 3x Alkosh in this fight on all 3 Tanks. The group will always be focussing wherever the Off Tank is located, this is either the Mini Boss or Z’Maja. It works better if the Off Tank is activating the Alkosh buff on the priority targets and the Main Tank uses an alternative set to benefit the group.
It is unreasonable to ask Off Tanks to run a Medium Armor body set for this trial, especially if they haven’t got a large number of clears in this trial.
The only really useful Heavy Armor set that also provides a good group here would be Ebon. Ebon is a well rounded set that simply helps the group to survive just that little bit more safely with the extra health boost. For the second set you use Alkosh only if it is needed. If Alkosh isn’t needed then the Off Tank would use Powerful Assault to provide the group with a damage buff. If the Main Tanks are not using Worm Cult and the group needs more sustain then the Off Tank could use Worm here.
Lord Warden is the most easily usable set for the Off Tank here. In the past the Off Tank would likely have used Symphony of Blades with Blood Altar but this no longer works. Lord Warden will spend most of this trial active on the group if the Off Tank uses it so it will give an additional 5% damage mitigation to the Damage Dealers, helping them to stay alive.
3 Infused/Magicka Recovery Jewellery is best for the Off Tank. You spend a lot of time running around, buffing/casting so having great Magicka Recovery will assist with that.
We use Infused/Prismatic and Divines/Magicka as the Off Tank here because you don’t actually need to block anything other that the Mini Boss Heavy Attack and you need to block most of the time in the portal if you have to go. This means you don’t really need Sturdy gear and there will be more benefit from Divines. You have so much time to Heavy Attack for Stamina that we have to focus on Magicka sustain and regeneration as this is the most difficult part of the fight. Magicka sustain is especially difficult in the portal when you are alone healing yourself while taking quite a lot of damage.
Side Bosses – Mini Bosses
If you are the Off Tank you will take the Mini Bosses when doing the side bosses. For this you could just use the same gear as the Off Tank setup, but switching Ebon to Yolnahkriin will help the group as the Main Tank will typically use a different set to help sustain the constant roll dodging.
The best Race’s to use here are: Nord for the additional resistances, this really helps dealing with the high damage in the portals. Breton for the Magicka sustain since Magicka use is extremely high for Tanks in Cloudrest, plus you get really high Spell Resistance and the last boss is 100% Spell Damage. Argonian/Imperial for the overall sustain benefits.
The best Mundus Stone to use here is: The Atronach for the extra Magicka Recovery, there is a lot of Magicka casting for the Tanks in this trial so this is important to help with sustain. The Steed for the speed boost and Health Recovery, the speed boost is nice for Tanks that are new in here and struggle to get to the bosses quicky, and the Health Recovery is a nice little extra to help with the high Heath draining situations.
We go with 64 Health since we are using Pristmatic and Magicka glyphs but we still need 36-38k Max Health to help us survive the incoming damage from the portal.
As standard we use the Bewitched Sugar Skulls which gives us Max Health, Magicka and Stamina plus more Health Recovery which is helpful in Cloudrest.
You can use regular Tri-Stat potions here as the Off Tank. If you are going into the portal you should use the Essence of Health potions that provide 8369 Heath, Major Fortitude, 898 Health per second and Major Vitality. In the portal you would use these when you have the orb dot especially or when you have really high damage phases and you are struggling to out heal it with regular heals.
