Main Tank Gear
Console/Static: in this situation you are unlikely able to have time to switch gear so you’ll just play all fights in melee distance. There are not a huge range of sets to use here, Yolnahkriin is a must have set and you would pair this with Galenwe if you don’t have a Necromancer Support using Empowering Grasp, or Drakes Rush for the group Ultimate gain. You could use Worm but it is not really needed anymore. Encratis’s Behemoth buffs your Magicka Damage Dealers flame damage but also, there is fire damage taken in this trial so it will reduce the Fire damage taken by 5% for anyone stood inside.
Beginner: Earthgore or Engine Guardian for the Monster Set. Problem beginner Tanks have here is sustain and surviving. Try to heavy attack after each Dragon Breath and that should help sustain. Yolnahkriin provides you with a good Tank set and an easy group buff set. Final set is Crest of Cyrodiil which will help you survive the Dragon Breaths, especially if you are with a Beginner Healer, it’s likely with both a Beginner Tank and Healer it will be difficult for both people so this will just help you to stay alive in those difficult situations.
Adds: Double Ice Staff, full AoE Debuff setup, this works amazingly well. You will typically be pulling add pulls solo/running ahead or in joint add pulls you take melee/most adds. Those adds get ranged taunted in, when then hit you they proc Defiled Dragon for Minor Breach, you then either block or at least press block for 1 second to proc Frozen Watcher which activates AoE Minor Brittle on all the adds nearby. When you are chaining in any small adds this will proc the Encratis’s Behemoth which increases the fire damage all the nearby enemies take. If you also throw down Razor Caltrops for the AoE Major Fracture, you are heavily debuffing all the adds so the Damage Dealers can kill them faster. The Off Tank will use Yolnahkriin/Alkosh/Lady Thorn, this is because they will usually run into the add pull after you so they can run at the enemies, proc Lady Thorn, use synergy to proc Alkosh and then taunt a small add or help you by taking one of your adds to proc Yolnahkriin.
Lokkestiiz: The best way to play this is to range Tank. You can run any range based Monster Set but going with 2x Stamina Recovery sets is nice with Bloodspawn and Stormfist. Yolnahkriin is needed again as its super easy to use and will always buff your group. Depending on skill level you could use Arkasis and each time you use a potion you’ll give 3 group members and yourself more Ultimate. If you are confident you could use Olorime at the back of the room and use Endless Hail to place it onto the stacked group. Worm is an option also. Infused Feat Cost is useful here for sustaining the Defensive Stance spam.
Yolnahkriin: We encounter the issue again where we have very few sets to use here. The problem is as the Main Tank you’ll have to go under the boss and chain the adds so you are not spending 100% of the fight looking at the boss which means you would get a lower uptime on some group buff sets. Encratis’s is vital for the increased group DPS and it helps lower the flame damage on you and the group by 5% which is ideal since this is a fire boss. Second set would be Worm, Drakes Rush or Galenwe depending on what your group needs are. You could also consider Elemental Catalyst.
Nahviitaas: Yolnahkriin gets used by the Off Tank at this point usually which means there is a difficult decision here as there are not truly great heavy sets other than Yolnahkriin. You have a choice of Drakes Rush or Galenwe or anything else you can find that is useful for your group. For the second set you should ideally go for Alkosh, this is not for the boss but its for the add phases. The adds are the part that usually makes or breaks a run so using Alkosh to pen cap the add phases will be extremely helpful to your group since they wont be at pen cap because your Crusher Enchant can only hit 1 enemy at a time so the Damage Dealers would be missing that pen from Crusher. If you don’t want to use this then go with Worm. Encratis’s would be best here again but if you have a hard time, especially with the adds then you could switch to Lady Thorn. Make sure to use 1 Light Armor piece here so that you are not completely frozen on the spot if using the Immovable skill.
Stamina Groups: If you are using any Stamina Damage Dealers in your group then you will need to use Tremorscale and Alkosh on all Bosses.
The best Race’s to use here are:
- Imperial for the overall sustain and lower cost Ultimate.
- Redguard for the Stamina sustain if this is something you struggle with.
- Nord for the additional resistances, Health and Stamina.
The best Mundus Stone to use here is: The Atronach for the extra Magicka Recovery, there is a lot of Magicka casting for the Tanks in this trial so this is important to help with sustain. The only other potential useful Mundus is The Lady if you are struggling with the incoming damage and you have really low resistances (under 26k) or you are low champion points.
We go with 64 Health since we need high Max Health on the bosses and we are using full Prismatic and Triune Jewellery so already have a good spread of other resources.
As standard we use the Bewitched Sugar Skulls which gives us Max Health, Magicka and Stamina plus more Health Recovery which is helpful for Tanking.
The best potions are regular Tri-Stat potions to give us all resources and recoveries. You could use Immovable Potions for emergency situations when you are inside a Time Stop AoE mid-mechanic and can’t get out if you are not using the skill Immovable.
