Hello everyone, I'm TCLee and welcome to the Tank Club
0:09
We've just come back from the ESO 10 event over in Amsterdam and I just wanted to kind
0:13
of share some thoughts and feelings about Gold Road, some of the things that are coming
0:17
along especially with Scribing and also really dive into those details regarding the tank
0:22
side of things. So the things that you might not have seen yet because obviously there's not many people
0:26
that focus on the tank side of things. So I've played quite a bit of Scribing, I've been invited to a closed playtest a couple
0:32
of weeks ago and I've also done additional playing and testing during the ESO 10 event
0:37
at the press event. I also got the chance to have a discussion with the developers in a roundtable discussion
0:43
at the ESO 10 event especially with Kira who is the main person in charge of Scribing and
0:49
also Brian Wheeler who is the lead combat designer. Now a few things before we get into kind of Scribing is the new gear sets that are available
0:58
coming with Gold Road and there's some great options from what I could see
1:02
Obviously there's like, there's no official numbers yet and we're going to have to wait till the PTS but the new trial set for tanks, the heavy armour set, is looking like it's
1:10
going in the right direction similar to how like Pearlescent Ward was one of those gear
1:13
sets where it's quite an easy buff to offer. It's going to buff up your group
1:17
The new heavy armour tank set from the new trial is going to buff your group's crit
1:22
and it's quite an easy one to maintain. It was based upon how high your health is and so that was looking really, really good
1:28
and another option that we're going to have moving forward. So that is a nice thing that we can expect to see
1:33
Some of the other things included a crafted tank set which reduced damage
1:38
Now obviously we're going to have to do some detailed testing on how that affects the damage
1:42
but obviously it might be a good crafted option for some newer players who don't yet have
1:46
access to those dungeon and trial gear sets. There was also a mythic item which reduced your incoming damage by 99% but it did have
1:55
a really long cooldown so there might be some niche use for that in situations where you
2:00
know you're going to take big hits and you want to avoid some kind of mechanic so we
2:04
might be able to find some use for that but we'll have to kind of wait and see how it comes out on the PTS because numbers and things like that weren't set in stone so there's
2:11
a few things we need to look at for that. So as I mentioned already I was invited to do some closed testing on the Scribing system
2:17
a few weeks ago similar to how I was invited to the Arcanist last year where we really
2:21
got to dive in and play through the Arcanist on like a preview server
2:26
Now if you remember going back to last year I was actually quite disappointed with the
2:30
Arcanist in like its initial conception on that preview server and there were so many
2:35
things that were missing and there was a lot of things that it didn't have that I personally
2:39
felt were really valuable and vital that would be needed for tanking
2:43
And eventually when it came to the PTS all of the things that I kind of had an issue
2:46
with were fixed so like we managed to get some really good feedback along with some
2:50
other creators and the Arcanist obviously was introduced to us in a very strong capacity
2:56
to the point where I've not played anything else. I was really disappointed on that preview server but on the actual release I absolutely
3:02
loved it and I haven't played anything else for the last year
3:06
Now when it comes to the Scribing system I am feeling a little bit more positive in comparison
3:11
to how I was with the Arcanist last year. So having played quite a lot of hours I've probably played about 20 hours worth of Scribing
3:17
just on the Scribing system along with nothing else and so I've got a really good kind of
3:21
insight in how it works and how everything kind of is going to play out from the tank perspective
3:27
So the way Scribing works is you will have to complete a quest to unlock Scribing
3:32
You will unlock a whole area where Scribing can be completed. Obviously Scribing is a precursor to Spellcrafting and it's not Spellcrafting in a format where
3:41
you can just craft a spell because obviously there's a lot more restrictions there but it is basically getting a spell and customising that spell to your specific needs which is
3:50
a system that is very exciting. There are 4000 possible combinations when it comes to the base spell and then the add-ons
3:56
that you can put onto each spell and so it is very exciting for all players but I'm especially
4:02
excited for it from a tank perspective. Now when it comes to the quest I don't want to scare you off with the fact that this is
4:08
a very very long quest. So to unlock everything regarding Scribing you're probably looking at about a 6 hour quest
4:16
Now this is going to vary. If you skip all the dialogue it's going to be a lot shorter. I did play through all the dialogue
4:20
I wanted to get a good understanding of how Scribing kind of is introduced into the game
4:24
from a lore perspective and I do feel the lore, the quest and everything around that
4:29
is very very good. It's probably one of the best quests I've played through for a good number of years
4:34
I haven't really been too engaged by the quest in recent years and that's not anything wrong
4:38
with Elder Scrolls Online particularly. It's a problem with me not really wanting to anymore
4:43
Like I've played through all of the quests and all of the dialogue and all of the lore
4:46
in the past and I've just become disengaged from that. But having played through the whole Scribing quest it took me about 5-6 hours but this
4:54
was on the preview server with no Wayshrines and also listening to all the dialogue
4:58
So a character that has Wayshrines unlocked it's going to be much much quicker. Now this quest has like an initial start up quest which is about 15 minutes and then once
5:06
you've done that you will unlock the major big open quest where you have to go and do
5:10
different rooms and do different tasks and follow the whole quest line
5:14
That will take a very long time. One of the good things with this is once you've done it one time it's unlocked on all of your characters
5:21
When you go and do the quest on alternate characters you'll only need to do that 15 minute introductory quest and the long 4-5-6 hour quest that follows that will only need
5:29
to be completed one time. So this is really good. It makes it so that you do want to experience that quest the first time around because it
5:34
is good but then you don't have to go through that slog every time like you do with the
5:38
Sigicorda and other things like that. So it is good that they've done that
5:41
You will also get a discount on purchasing all of the spells and the scripts and everything
5:45
for alternative characters. So the way that everything works is you complete that initial quest and you will unlock the
5:52
base spell. So there's a bunch of different base spells. I call them base spells to make it a bit easier to understand
5:58
They're called Grimoires in the game but it's basically the base of the spell and this is
6:03
like the kind of base animation of what it's kind of base ability does
6:08
Now once you've got that you will then be able to purchase that from an NPC so you'll
6:12
be able to buy them all from an NPC after that initial quest. On alternative characters they'll have a bit of a discount so it won't cost you the full
6:18
price to buy them again because you won't unlock them on alternative characters you'll have to buy them again but it will be at a bit of a discount
6:23
As you do the different parts of the quest you'll unlock different parts so you'll unlock
6:28
more scripts and things like that and the scripts are basically the attachments that you can
6:32
put onto the spell so the additional things you can add on you will unlock those as you
6:36
do the different parts of the quest and again once you've done that initial 15 minute quest
6:41
on alternative characters you'll unlock all the scripts and the Grimoires and you'll be able to buy them for a discount
6:46
So this is a really good way they've seen the feedback that they've had in the past
6:49
from other similar things where obviously the player base are frustrated having to regrind
6:53
out everything they've already done to get it on multiple characters so they have listened and they've followed that advice and they've gone with a much easier system this time around
7:01
So to actually do Scribing once you've got that base spell you'll be able to equip that
7:06
and then you need to go to this specific location at the moment there's only one place where
7:10
you can Scribe and this is going to be in the main Scribing area
7:14
Once you go there you use the Scribing station and you'll be able to select your base spell
7:19
What you can then do is look at the scripts that you possess and you can add the scripts
7:23
onto your ability to change what the ability does. So from a tank perspective this has been really exciting because there's some really really
7:30
good things and I'm going to cover those in a minute. Each time you create a spell you will need to use a material which you'll see at the
7:37
bottom of your screen and you'll have that little material there and every time you add a script that will cost you one
7:43
Now obviously you can go and change these spells and customise these as and when you want so you will need to get more of this to spend on changing the spells as you progress
7:51
through the Scribing system. So it is very very simple to use it might be a bit daunting at first especially when
7:56
you think there's 4000 different options but actually on the surface of it when you
8:00
really look into it it's not as difficult as it seems. You just open up the menu you choose the spell you want to customise you add the scripts
8:08
on you confirm it and then it's there and then it just goes straight into your skill list and you can equip it to your skill bar
8:13
So it is a fairly simple system it's been done very very well
8:18
So my first impressions of the whole system are quite positive from obviously I'm looking
8:22
at it from a tank perspective I have seen some of the feedback that has come from damage
8:26
dealers and I really like high end orientated players who are like focused on the trials
8:31
side of things and how is this going to impact a 12 player group going for trifectas and
8:35
score pushing that kind of thing. It might not seem as strong as in replacing skills that a really top tier damage dealer
8:42
might be using but from the tank perspective it is very very strong in my opinion
8:48
What it does is it opens the option of playing more different classes of tank in different environments
8:54
Now I'm not focusing on just end game score pushing trials we're going to look at it from
8:58
the perspective of the average player and people sometimes want to play a Templar tank
9:03
or a Sorcerer tank or a Nightblade tank and what this new system what this scribing system
9:08
is going to do is that it opens up the option to play these other classes without having
9:14
those really detrimental impacts that are currently there. Now obviously the Nightblade is not going to gain lots of additional new buffs and debuffs
9:21
because like the reason why people don't play them mostly is because they don't have that
9:27
unique thing on offer and that's still going to persist as we go into scribing
9:32
The thing that you are going to get from the scribing is you're going to have access to
9:37
a Magicka chain. Some of the skills that I managed to put together on the preview server were like a Magicka
9:41
pulse skill and when you use it it refunds a thousand Magicka and a thousand stamina
9:46
and then it would also apply a debuff to the enemy. Maybe it's a debuff that's not as easily accessible or you could put something like minor breach
9:54
or minor cowardice on there and these aren't things that you'll get super often so it's
9:58
like you're able to get this chain skill and then add things that you don't currently have in your build
10:02
And then other skills like there's like a vacuum skill where you can make it on your character where it like sucks enemies straight on top of you so similar to the Vatyshram
10:10
one handed shield so that's really cool. There's different things like that which made it very good for a tank
10:17
Another one was the option of applying an AoE immobilize. Obviously there's certain classes right now, the Templar for example, again the Nightblade
10:26
they're not very good at crowd control in comparison to some of the other classes because
10:30
they don't have access to those pulls that aren't silver leash and they don't have access
10:35
to an immobilize so they struggle to really keep control of enemies and they also have
10:39
bigger sustain issues. These are going to be alleviated because they now have access to these things and one of
10:45
the skills was using a staff and obviously you throw down this huge AoE and it will just
10:51
freeze enemies in place and it was fantastic. It just means that now we've got this huge 360 degree AoE immobilize for all classes
11:00
so it is bringing that balance into place especially for like more dungeon content and
11:05
arena content. It means that you don't need to specifically run certain classes because they don't have
11:10
access to certain things. When it comes to the trial environment though, there are some skills that are going to have
11:15
great utility. There was one skill where your mount pops about the ground and it would gallop forwards
11:21
and there are things like that where you can turn it into a refreshing path where you can
11:25
make it a group buff where it pops up and it throws down something on the ground to
11:29
increase your group speed and to provide different buffs and things as they're moving
11:34
So there's a lot of different things in there that are going to be very useful for tanking
11:38
I think for me the main thing was really balancing out the different classes in terms of giving
11:44
them those options. Now one of the other good sides of it was nowadays when you've got a skill that might
11:49
do one or two things, like as a tank you might use a skill that will just do one thing
11:54
Now you can combine it into multiple different effects. So there might be a skill that you're using just to give you one thing, let's say you've
12:00
got a skill and it's just to give your miner resolve and it doesn't really do much else
12:04
So now instead of using that now you can abandon it and you can use a skill that will provide
12:08
miner resolve but it'll also put an effect on the enemy and it'll also do another thing
12:13
So now you're able to take a skill that might only do one or two minor things for your character
12:17
and turn that into three or four useful effects instead. So the system for me seems like a very strong system
12:25
It's obviously not going to change a trial environment. If your trial group needs a dragon knight for stone giant and engulfing flames then
12:32
you're still going to need to use that and there's probably not going to be a ton of different things that are going to be useful in that specific environment in a trial
12:40
Similarly to the arcanist, the arcanist doesn't really have much space to remove skills but
12:44
it will have that additional access to maybe a pull skill that won't need to be silver
12:49
leashed now. There is some real nice utility in there. So from a tank perspective I honestly think the scriming system is going to be absolutely
12:56
fantastic and like I say I've got a much more positive outlook on this one in comparison
13:01
to how I felt from the arcanist from playtest in that last year. So this is something that I'm very excited about
13:07
So yeah my initial first impressions are really positive. Like I say I've played a good amount of hours testing lots of different combinations of
13:13
skills and the fact you're going to have 4000 potential options is pretty incredible
13:20
Obviously along the way we're going to find things that might be broken and might function
13:24
in a really strange way. I already found some of those and reported those but yeah I really do think the system
13:29
is very very good. Now some of the things I discussed during the roundtable discussion with the developers
13:34
they weren't really able to tell me but it's quite obvious that the system is built in
13:39
a way that can be added onto. So at the minute there's only certain skills that have been added to the game
13:45
So the weapon skills, the world skills, there's still plenty of different skill lines that
13:49
can be added onto with new options in the future. Having the option of like the class scripts where you've got like an attachment that you
13:56
can put onto a skill that affects that class specifically was really really good. The dragon knight one for example reduces damage based on the amount of enemies around
14:03
you so that was really really strong for the DK. Adding another layer of tankiness to a dragon knight which I thought was great
14:11
Some of the other ones not so great from a tank perspective but they did make some of
14:15
these skills really enjoyable and also helped to keep that kind of class identity in place
14:19
a little bit. So overall the scribing system, the scribing quest, the scribing quest was really really
14:24
exciting really fun really enjoyable quest and engaging the whole time. The actual system itself seems really well designed
14:32
The lead in charge of this whole thing, Kira, such a passionate developer and she really
14:37
kind of made me buy into everything because the way she talks about the system, her knowledge
14:41
and kind of insight into everything was so detailed and well thought out and well spoken
14:46
that it made me more excited about scribing. So that is everything for this video guys
14:51
If you've got any questions about anything that you'd like to know that I might be able to answer feel free to leave a comment below and I'll try and get back to you and see if
14:59
I can kind of answer any of those questions. The PTS is on the way next week so Monday the 15th of April that is on the way very
15:06
soon so you'll get a chance to test it and also we'll see some changes because the version
15:10
that I've played on was a bit outdated now so probably about a month old so we'll get to see the kind of up to date version of scribing and how far along we've come and I'm really
15:18
excited for Gold Road. Thank you very much for watching and I'll see you next time. Bye bye for now
