The Night Market is The Elder Scrolls Online’s first-ever limited-time Event Zone, running from April 29th to June 17th as part of Season Zero.
This isn’t your typical overland content. The Night Market is designed as a challenging, progression-based PvE experience that blends open-world exploration with world bosses, dungeons and trial-style gameplay.
If you’re jumping in for the first time, this guide will walk you through exactly how it works, what to prioritise, and how to get the most out of it.

How to Enter the Night Market
There are three ways to access the Night Market:
- Pick up the free quest starter in the Crown Store
- Travel to Fargrave and speak to the Curator in the Shambles
- Use the map icon to go directly to the Starlit Plaza
Once inside, you’ll arrive in the Starlit Plaza, which acts as the main hub for the entire event.

Choosing a Faction
Early on, you’ll need to choose one of three factions:
- The Ruckus – strength and combat focused
- The Thousand Eyes – knowledge and strategy
- The Glittering Goad – wealth and influence
Your choice is:
- Account-wide
- Locked for the duration of the event
This matters because everything you do in the Night Market contributes to your faction’s progress and final rewards.
Tip: Don’t overthink this, pick the theme you like, or follow your friends/guild.

What the Night Market Actually Is
The Night Market plays like a shared open zone, similar to a public dungeon or world boss area but much harder.
Inside the zone you’ll find:
- Open-world bosses
- Timed skirmish events
- Puzzles (Oddities)
- Quests and dailies
- A full progression path into dungeons and a trial
You’ll naturally fight alongside other players in the area, with multiple encounters happening at once.

How Progression Works (Simple Explanation)
This is where most players get confused — so here’s the simple version:
Step 1: Clear Lower-Tier Bosses
Each district has Brazen bosses (basic open-world bosses).
Step 2: Unlock Stronger Bosses
Killing these spawns Argent bosses (stronger enemies).
Step 3: Get Dungeon Access
Argent bosses drop key fragments, which let you access a 4-player dungeon (Gilded boss).
Step 4: Unlock the Trial
Completing all districts leads to the 12-player trial: Opulent Ordeal.
In short: Bosses → Stronger bosses → Dungeon → Trial

Districts & Relics
The Night Market has three districts, each with its own mechanics:
- Skittering Precinct (grapple traversal)
- Sorrow’s Friend (darkness mechanic)
- The Parch (sandstorm navigation)
As you play, you’ll collect Relic Splinters.
These combine into District Relics, which:
- Unlock new paths and areas
- Are required to enter dungeon encounters
No relic = no progression.

Rewards & Why You Should Play
Everything you do in the Night Market earns Favor for your faction.
You earn Favor by:
- Killing enemies
- Completing bosses
- Doing quests and events
What Favor Does
- Unlocks items at your Faction Vendor
- Contributes to your Faction’s leaderboard position
Rewards Include:
- Gear and item sets
- Cosmetics and style pages
- Titles and achievements
- Furnishings and collectibles
- The free Night’s Den house (from intro quest)
At the end of the event:
Your faction’s overall performance determines additional rewards.

Is the Night Market Worth It?
Yes, especially if you enjoy:
- Challenging PvE content
- Group-focused gameplay
- Structured progression
- Limited-time rewards
This isn’t something you casually chip away at.
It’s something you jump into while it’s live and work through.
The Night Market is one of the most ambitious additions ESO has had in a long time.
It brings together open-world chaos, structured progression, and meaningful rewards in a way that actually gives players a reason to log in and play consistently.
If you’re planning to get involved, get in early, pick your faction, and start working through the progression while the event is active.
