Main Tank Gear
If you are an experienced group and an experienced Tank who can maintain Alkosh with 80%+ uptime then you could use Alkosh in this Trial if it is needed in your group. This would only be needed if you have more than 2 Damage Dealers who are not Nightblades and Necromancers, or you have Stamina Damage Dealers in the group.
In a Magicka group, you could use Torug’s rather than Alkosh as Torug’s is somewhat more consistent. It only requires an Infused/Crusher Staff with Blockade placed for almost a 1k pen boost and the uptime is completely the responsibility of the Tank who should keep Blockade placed at all times. Torug’s is more reliable compared to Alkosh which needs a supply of synergies from the group which sometimes may not be available.
We use a 5/1/1 setup in this trial with Sturdy/Health Shoulder, Hands, Waist, Feet and Prismatic/Infused Head, Chest, Legs this is to give us good Max Health for dealing with the last boss and spread some resources between Magicka and Stamina.
As the Main Tank, Yolnahkriin is the staple set we use as it requires a taunt for it to be maintained and the Main Tank is the only person doing this for the entire duration of every fight.
If the group has Stamina DDs then Tremorscale should be used in all fights if possible.
For adds you run a full debuff setup with Dragon’s Defilement and Alkosh along with an AoE Major Breach skill putting your group at max pen very quickly and efficiently. Lady Thorn is a 360 degree AoE Major Maim which will lower the damage that the adds do to you and your group.
There is nothing special here with the gear. You can use almost any Monster Set but Bloodspawn is a good idea due to the lack of supports that are usually in this raid. It is typically done with 1 Tank and 1 Healer, 1 Buff Healer unless you are doing Hardmode, in which case an Off Tank might be used but only on the last boss.
You’ll use Alkosh or Torug’s if your group needs the pen, if not then Powerful Assault should be in range of the majority of your group for boss 1 and it will work well on boss 2 when you are on the left side with just half the group.
For this fight you have an option of using Earthgore for additional healing if you need it or Vykosa to debuff the boss.
The set you will pair with Yolnahkriin will depend on your experience. If your group needs Alkosh or Torug’s then you should try to use those if you can. If you don’t need those then Galenwe is a good option because this is quite a block intensive fight and you will buff your group doing so. If you have a Necro Support in the group then Galenwe won’t be needed so you could just use The Worm's Raiment or Way of Martial Knowledge.
If you are new to Tanking this Hardmode then Bani’s Torment will be your best option for dealing with the incoming damage.
Infused/Potion Cooldown is a good option to help with sustain and to give you an emergency heal when the Thousand Cuts mechanic starts if your healer is a little slow to react.
Any race can be used in this Trial but Nord and Imperial are typically the best options for Hardmode. Nord has Max Health and a lot of additional resistances which will reduce the incoming damage and the Imperial has even more Max Health plus additional sustain benefits. Argonian could also be used as that will work well in combination with the Hardmode jewellery setup.
The best Mundus Stone to use here is: The Atronach for the extra Magicka Recovery, there is a lot of Magicka casting for the Tanks in this trial so this is important to help with sustain. The Lord will give additional Max Health if its needed. The Lady will be helpful for any none Nord races for Hardmode.
We go with 64 Health because the last boss damage is quite high especially in Hardmode.
As standard we use the Bewitched Sugar Skulls which gives us Max Health, Magicka and Stamina plus more Health Recovery which is helpful.
Tri-Stat potions are the best to use especially on Hardmode as you will need to replenish resources quite often due to the high blocking demands involved in this trial.
