ESO Cloudrest Main Tank Build
Cloudrest Information
Welcome to The Tank Club: ESO Cloudrest Main Tank Build.
Cloudrest is a DLC 12-person trial located in Summerset. It was the seventh trial that was introduced into The Elder Scrolls Online with the Summerset Chapter in May 2018. This was the second mini trial created where there are not really any adds between bosses, it’s just a trial with 4 bosses and the Hardmode is a combination of all the bosses together.
The builds listed here are designed for standard vCR but also the +1, +2 and +3 Hardmodes. These builds are most suited to Magicka group compositions, this is because almost every group uses Magicka exclusively in this trial as it is much easier when doing so.
We have included a range of build options here for Beginners, Optimised Groups, Execute and Portal Tanking and the side Gryphons and Mini Bosses.
This trial will often have two Main Tanks who alternate doing the portal. Both Main Tanks will also take it in turns Tanking Z’Maja, and there is usually just one of these Tanks who deals with the execute phase of the fight. Sometimes however, the two Main Tanks might switch Z’Maja in execute but this is something you shouldn’t need to do.
Tank Guides for this Trial will be available soon in the Tank Guide section and on our YouTube channel.

- The Off Tank should be using sets to compensate the Main Tank – Powerful Assault or Elemental Catalyst with Turning Tide and Encratis’s Behemoth.
- Use Troll King if you are stacking health recovery. Otherwise use Engine Guardian as it’s the best Tank healing monster set in the game.
- Use Powerful Assault if your group stack well on the bosses tail. Use Worm if you/your group need resources. Use Saxhleel Champion if you are barrier rotating for an easy clear.
- When using PA or Sax, just back bar it so you can use Puncturing Remedy for an easier execute phase.
- Divines/Infused is good here because you almost never need to block and the extra speed/health recovery is great when combined with The Steed as health recovery is strong for the execute and portal phases.
- Harmony Jewellery is helpful for execute to boost the Overflowing Altar synergy heal but not essential, use Infused for better sustain if you heal up easily.

- Use Tava’s here because it’s crafted and you want to run Medium/Well Fitted so it’s easiest to just craft a set for this 1 situation.
- All gear is Medium/Well Fitted so you can roll dodge EVERY light attack from the Gryphon and when it’s in the air, you want to be kiting the Gryphon away from the group.

Cloudrest Skills
Necromancer
Nightblade
Sorcerer
Templar
Warden
You should follow the standard Champion Point chart for this trial and then consider the following Red slottable CP which will help you in Cloudrest specifically.

Cloudrest Notes
Class
You can Tank Cloudrest with any class however the Warden and Sorcerer are both excellent for this environment, and arguably make this trial much easier to Tank.
The Dragonknight is always an option due to their skills and passives.
Necromancer & Templar Main Tanks may find this trial difficult mostly because of the difficulty with healing while transitioning and in the portal.
Race
Any race can be used on Cloudrest but there are some that will help more than others
Bretons are fantastic in this trial for the Magicka sustain since Magicka use is extremely high for Tanks in Cloudrest especially in the portal, plus you get really high Spell Resistance and the last boss is 100% Spell Damage.
Nord for the additional resistances, this really helps dealing with the high damage in the portals.
Imperial or Redguard for the sustain.
Orc for the extra healing and speed, both great for this trial.
Mundus
The Steed is an excellent choice for the speed boost and Health Recovery. The speed boost is nice for Tanks that are new in here and struggle to get to the bosses quickly, and the Health Recovery great because we are stacking multiple sources which make us have up to 5k incoming Health per recovery tick.
If you are not stacking Health Recovery then The Atronach for the extra Magicka Recovery, there is a lot of Magicka casting for the Tanks in this trial so this is important to help with sustain.
Attributes
The best option here is 64 Health since this build uses Pristmatic and Magicka glyphs and no Boundless Vitality CP but you still need 36-38k Max Health to help you survive the incoming damage from the portal.
Food
As standard we use the Bewitched Sugar Skulls which gives us Max Health, Magicka and Stamina plus more Health Recovery which is helpful in Cloudrest.
If you are the execute Tank, it can be a good idea to have another type of food that you use as soon as you reach execute. This food will typically not have any Max Health perk and it means you and your Healers will be able to get you back to full Health during the Baneful Mark. Good food options for this are anything with Max Magicka, Magicka Recovery, Health Recovery and possibly Max Stamina.
Potions
You can use regular Tri-Stat potions here when you are dealing with the Gryphons or not in the portal.
When you are in the execute phase or you are in the portal you should use the Essence of Health potions that provide 8369 Heath, Major Fortitude, 898 Health per second and Major Vitality. In the portal you would use these when you have the orb dot especially or when you have really high damage phases and you are struggling to out heal it with regular heals.
In execute you would use these only when you have received the Baneful Mark and completed your rotation to reach full health and you have not reached full to remove the Mark, you use a potion and tell your healers and then spam as much healing on yourself as possible.
When you first come out of the portal you could use Immovable Potions if your group are fighting Relequen since that boss can stun you and make you get killed by the Monstrosity.
